Explore Dubai During the 12th Emirates Pathology & Digital pathology Conference
Old world meets otherworldly in this most glamorous of desert hotspots.
1. Dubai has the world’s most magnificent skyline.
You’re never far from a spectacular vista, whether you’re downtown at the Burj Khalifa (the world’s highest man-made structure) or down at the Marina, which is home to four of the world’s five tallest residential buildings (shown).
2. Ascend the world’s tallest structure
There are more skyscrapers in this city than you can count. The Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building, and Dubai is recognised for its superstructures. The world’s highest free-standing structure, at 2,722 feet (828 metres), is nearly twice the height of New York’s Empire State Building. With 163 floors, the views from the observation decks are bound to be spectacular.
3. Visit the Mega Malls for entertainment.
Dubai is known for its’mega malls,’ and the ‘Dubai Mall,’ the world’s largest shopping mall, is just one of the novelty retail centres to visit. People travel from far and wide to indulge in retail therapy and to explore the shopping mall attractions. In January, Dubai hosts a month-long shopping festival with concerts and contests in which visitors can win cars and gold.
4. Skiing in the desert is an option.
That’s right, you read it accurately. In the middle of the Arabian Desert, Dubai has a ski resort. The 5 slope indoor ski resort is 85 metres high and 22,500 square metres, with the world’s first 400-meter indoor black run.
5. It boasts a vibrant cuisine scene.
With such a diverse population, the city offers an incredible variety of gastronomic styles. There’s something for everyone with hundreds of Arab-Persian-Indian-Pakistani-Filipino-French-Japanese-Chinese-British, and American restaurants, both humble and high-end. When you consider the numerous culinary festivals that take place throughout the year, as well as the slew of pop-up eateries, it’s no surprise that people talk about newcomers putting on the ‘Dubai stone.’
