Chemical pathology: What is it?
Clinical biochemistry, another name for chemical pathology, is
the study of the biochemistry of physiological fluids such blood, urine, and
cerebrospinal fluid. Diseases may be identified and tracked by determining how
and where the body's chemistry has altered.
How important is
chemical pathology?
A change in the body's chemistry can be a sign of many diseases.
Science and medicine come together in chemical pathology. Laboratory
specialists can determine if a patient's organs are functioning normally, diagnose disorders, and
offer treatment recommendations by knowing the chemistry of physiological
fluids and keeping an eye on them. For
instance, elevated blood glucose levels might be a symptom of diabetes.
A substance
called glucose serves as the body's fuel. The hormone insulin controls blood
glucose levels. Diabetes might occur if the body doesn't create enough insulin.
Diabetes can damage the eyes, kidneys, and blood arteries, which can lead to
heart disease and poor circulation. Pregnancy can cause diabetes in certain
women.
Chemical pathologists'
responsibilities:
Hospitals offer a clinical biochemistry service that involves
clinical scientists, medical
consultants, and biological
scientists. Most of the routine analytical work is done by qualified
biomedical professionals. The ability to perform intricate analytical work is
shared by clinical and biological experts. The proper application of
investigations, the interpretation of findings, and the creation of the service
are the duties of clinical scientists and medical personnel. Direct patient
care may also involve members of the medical staff. For
instance, managing clinics for cholesterol, diabetes, endocrine, and bone
diseases. They are moreover a part of the hospital's feeding staff.
The team's clinical
scientists and consultants
also contribute to the service's development through innovation in
evidence-based science. This may entail introducing and executing specialized
analysis, creating and putting into practise novel approaches (typically in
conjunction with colleagues from business or academia), and maintaining contact with
healthcare professionals.
Point-of-care
examination:
Today, many clinical biochemistry tests may be
completed at the patient's home or at their bedside. Point-of-care testing is
what this is known as, and it has the benefit of not requiring patients to
leave their beds or go to the hospital in order to get their test. There is
often no waiting because the findings are readily available. Chemical
pathologists are pleased with this novel breakthrough since it might enhance the
care patients get.
There must be care taken
to ensure that the tests are correct because not all tests, such as those
purchased over the counter or online, are of the same high calibre as those in
the laboratory.
Abstract submission is now open: The 13th Emirates Pathology,
Digital Pathology & Cancer Conference will be held on December 15–17, 2023,

The presenting speaker or author must register and pay the
registration fee. Please note that registration is required to be included in
the final program, to have the abstract published in the online
“Book/proceedings” of CME/CPD accredited 13th Emirates Pathology, Digital
Pathology & Cancer Conference, and to be invited to submit an abstract for
publication in the official Proceedings.
